Former World Number 1 star Jelena Jankovic is aiming to come back to the top after a season of ups and downs. She reached the final at Indian Wells, the semifinals in Cincinnati, the quarter finals at Wimbledon after beating Petra Kvitova and won three WTA tournaments in Guangzhou, Hong Kong (where she beat Venus Williams and Angelique Kerber) and the WTA 125 K tournament in Nanchang but suffered some injury problems.
“To come back to the top, improve my game and be in good shape. That is the primary goal. Injuries were stopping me not only physically, but also mentally. Every time I have to come back, I had to come back from scratch. In the last couple of months I have been able to get that consistency on a daily basis”, told Jankovic to the press during the Champions Tennis League
“I have to improve some aspects of my game. The world of tennis is changing quickly thanks to new rising stars like Garbine Muguruza, Belinda Bencic, Karolina Pliskova. Injuries were stopping me not only physically but also mentally. I had a back problem in the back. My primary goal is to come back to the top, improve my game and be in top shape. In the last couple of months I have been able to get consistency on a daily basis”
