The French Tennis Federation announced that the first-round match of the 2016 Davis Cup between France and Canada will take place in Baie Mahault in the overseas department of Guadaloupe on 4-6 March.
The match will be held in the 8000-seat Velodrome Amedee Detraux, the biggest stadium in Guadaloupe. It will be the first time that France will play a Davis Cup tie in an overseas department.
The French team will be coached by new Davis Cup captain Yannick Noah, who is the last French player to win a Grand Slam title at the Roland Garros in 1983
French tennis Federation Jean Gachassin said: “It’s an historic moment. I would like to thank Yannick Noah and the players who were behind this magnificent iniatiative.”
