The Serbian tennis Federation has announced that Serbia will clash against Kazakhstan for the first round of the Davis Cup World Group at the Pionir Sports hall in Belgrade from 4th to 6th March 2016. The Pionir Sports hall, well known for hosting basketball matches, was built in 1973 and has a capacity of 8150 seats. It will host the first Davis Cup tie since February 1989 when a Serbian team featuring Slobodan Zivojinovic, Bruno Oresar and Goran Ivanisevic beat Denmark 4-1 in the first round. That year Serbia went on to reach the semifinals where they were defeated by Sweden.
The Serbian team will be led by World Number 1 Novak Djokovic who will make his Davis Cup come-back after playing his first three tournaments of the 2016 season in Doha, Melbourne (Australian Open) and Dubai. Djokovic must play in another Davis Cup tie to be eligible for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He played only once for Serbia in the Davis Cup last March against Croatia. During his career Djokovic played in 22 Davis Cup ties with a win-loss record of 30-9 (27-7 in singles matches)
After the Davis Cup match against Kazakhstan Djokovic will defend his two titles at Indian Wells and Miami.
