It has been confirmed that Andy Murray has ended his partnership with former world No.4 Jonas Bjorkman after 9-months working together.

The Swede started working with Murray in March and was a prominent feature in the team during the summer whilst Murray’s other coach, Amelie Mauresmo, had her first baby. During the brief partnership Bjorkman spoke highly about the Brit during an interview with The Guardian in June.

“I am very happy to come in and be part of his team with Amélie and Treacs [his conditioner Matt Little],” he said. “Everyone has done a phenomenal job. Obviously I saw him player to player. I always had a great relationship with him – he is a great guy”. The former world No.4 said.

The announcement of the departure of Bjorkman was confirmed by a post on Murray’s Facebook account.

Nice to have Amelie back in the team out in Dubai. Thanks to Jonas for helping out this year. I enjoyed working with one of the nicest guys on the tour, bring on 2016.

Despite separating with the Swede, Murray will still continue working with Mauresmo. The BBC has reported that the Frenchwoman is planning to work with Murray for 22-24 weeks in 2016. It is reported that the amount of commitment from Mauresmo could of been a factor in Bjorkman’s departure. The Brit has also set a target of recruiting a new assistant coach by Indian Wells, the first Masters tournament of the year.

Speaking about his work so far with Mauresmo, Murray admitted that she faced a tough task, but he is happy with their work together.

“Amelie did come in at a difficult time, when I had just come back from back surgery, which was tough”. The world No.2 said.
“When I started working with her officially I was ranked 11 in the world – I had just dropped out of the top 10 for the first time in eight years – and I’m now back up to number 2, which is my highest ranking.”

The announcement of the coaching change comes shortly after Murray said that he would quit the Australian Open if his wife goes into early labour.
