Novak Djokovic is broken five times but beats Gilles Simon 6-3 7-5 to extend his winning streak to 19 consecutive matches

Novak Djokovic edged Gilles Simon 6-3 7-5 to advance to the quarter final in Paris Bercy to extend his winning streak to 19 consecutive matches and 26 sets in a row. Djokovic leads 9-1 in his head-to-head matches against the Frenchman.

Djokovic made two double faults to face a break point at 30-40 in the third game. Simon broke serve with a cross-court forehand passing shot to take a 2-1 lead but Djokovic bounced back earning a break point with a forehand passing shot at 30-40 in the next game. Djokovic broke straight back in the next game to draw level to 2-2.

Djokovic earned two more break point chances at 15-40 in the sixth game. Djokovic converted the break point to go up 4-2. He recovered from 15-30 on his service game to hold his serve for 5-2. Djokovic served out the first set on his second set point

The second set featured seven breaks of serve in the first seven games with Djokovic leading 4-3. The World Number 1 was broken for the fifth time in the match as he was serving for the match at 5-4. Djokovic broke again to take the 6-5 lead. Djokovic earned three match points at 40-0 in the next game and sealed the win on his first chance with a forehand winner after one hour and 37 minutes

Djokovic hit 2 aces, committed 3 double faults, won 65 percent of his first service points and converted seven of his nine break point chances.

“It happens. In sport there are days when you just lose your rhythm. You are trying a bit too much and you lose a lot of confidence. It was frustrating losing four service games in the second set. It hasn’t happened to me for a long time. I returned well during the entire match. I didn’t give him too much room to improve his game. I feel like I have a good chance from the baseline against anyone”, said Djokovic
