Mike and Bob Bryan ousted Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini from the ATP World Tour Finals tournament. The Americans beat the Italian duo by 6-3 6-2 in less than one hour. The Australian Open champions can’t reach the semi-finals any more.
Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini will not be able to reach the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour Finals no matter what their third match in London brings. The Italian duo lost the second matches in a row at the O2 Arena, ousted by Mike and Bob Bryan in straight sets with the final score of 6-3 6-2. The Americans won in less than one hour, 55 minutes in total to edge the Australian Open champions.
With this defeat the two Italians are sure to surrender their bid to a last-four spot in their first ever appearance at the year-end championships.
Unable to dictate the rallies, Fognini and Bolelli didn’t see a single break point chance during the match, surrendering their serve a total of three times. Particularly not brilliant on court was Simone Bolelli, unable to find the sparkles of the first half of the season.
After losing their debut match to Bopanna/Mergea in straight sets, the Bryan brothers keep their chances of reaching the semi-finals alive. Defending champions in London, the Bryans have won the tournament 4 times, but are trying to get back to their feet after only winning one match since the US Open. In their home Slam the the Americans faced a shocking first-round defeat.
