Andy Murray dropped just three games to brush aside 18-year-old Borna Coric (the youngest player in the top 50 of the ATP Ranking) with 6-1 6-2 in his opening match in the refurbished Accorhotel Arena in Paris Bercy. The Scotsman converted four of his five break points and did not face any break points in the whole match.
Murray and Coric were tied 1-1 in their previous head-to-head matches. Murray won their first clash in the Davis Cup 6-3 6-0 6-3. Coric upset Murray in their last match in Dubai last February with 6-1 6-3.
Murray broke twice in each set to seal a comfortable win in just 58 minutes. Murray won 84 percent of his first serve points.
Murray reached the quarter finals in Paris Bercy in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2014 but has never advanced past this stage in eight appearances in this tournament. He has already won two Master 1000 titles so far in 2015 in Madrid and Montreal and reached the final at the Australian Open and in the Miami Master 1000 tournament where he lost against Novak Djokovic.
Murray played his first match since losing to Novak Djokovic in the Shanghai Master 1000
In the third round Murray will face Belgian David Goffin in a dress-rehearsal of this month’s Davis Cup Final between Great Britain and Belgium in Ghent. Murray beat Goffin 6-1 6-4 7-5 in their only previous head-to-head match at Wimbledon in 2014.
If Murray beats Goffin, he could meet either Richard Gasquet or Kei Nishikori in the quarter final and Roger Federer in the semifinal.
John Isner beat British number 2 player Aljaz Bedene 6-3 7-6.
