The Belgian Team Worried for Steve Darcis Heading Closer to Davis Cup Final

The Belgian Davis Cup team was taken back finding out Steve Darcis is suffering from an ankle injury after losing to Gasquet in Stockholm. There are only few weeks left for Darcis to recover in time to help Belgium win a historical Davis Cup first title.

Tickets are already sold out and the Davis Cup final is now only weeks away. Starting on Friday November 27, Belgium will host Great Britain at the Flanders Expo in Ghent bidding to win a historical first ever Davis Cup title. The home team has however something to be very worried about heading into the month of November.

Playing against Richard Gasquet at the Stockholm Open, Steve Darcis was forced to retire in the second set due to an ankle injury. Steve is no regular player for Belgium, being the second highest ranked player for his country behind World No.16 David Goffin. Not to mention that Steve is also a fundamental doubles player, particularly important considering how Great Britain will have Andy Murray’s brother in his lines, Jamie, a two-time Grand Slam doubles finalist this year at Wimbledon and the US Open.

Belgium is in its first Davis Cup final since 1904, when the team lost to Great Britain. To revert history and avoid repeat, Belgium needs his best team possible.
