Bojana Jovanovski continued to impress in Uzbekistan as she seeks to reignite a once promising career that saw reach the heights of number 32 in the world in August of last year. The last time the 23 year-old Serb won more than two consecutive matches on tour came in Rome in May, that’s 12 tournament without putting together back-to-back wins.
Today she confirmed the good sensations that have returned to her tennis with a three set win over number one seed Annika Beck. Jovanovski took a topsy turvy match with numerous breaks and ultimately proved slightly too powerful for her German counterpart.
In the semi finals awaiting Jovanovski will be Nao Hibino who ended Kozlova’s fairy tale run from the qualifiers. This victory could see the Japanese player break the top 100 for the first time in her career and at the age of 20 things are most definitely looking bright for Hibino.
In the bottom half of the draw, Donna Vekic continued to surge through the draw with a win over Friedsam and once again she had to overcome huge problems with her serve. Today her 5 aces were more than cancelled out by a whopping 16 double faults, a handicap which so far hasn’t pulled her back enough to lose but that clearly needs polishing. Her next challenge in that sense will be Rodina, who knocked out Larsson 6-3, 5-7, 6-0.
