The Olympic Tennis Centre in Rio De Janeiro is finally taking shape, after months of delays and budget concerns.

Much the like the build-up of the football World Cup in 2014, there have been massive concerns regarding the timing of infrastructure completion, with the Tennis Centre, amongst the most highlighted as being in trouble. Issues arising from funding concerns and environmental issues. Delays have afflicted most areas of the Rio Olympics.  But the Centre is now taking shape, and Rio officials are adamant that the facility will be completed well in time for the start of the Games.

The tennis event at the Olympics consists of Men Singles and Doubles, Women’s Singles and Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. Andy Murray and Serena Williams won the singles events at London 2012. Serena and Venus Williams won the Women’s Doubles, and Bob and Mike Bryan won the Men’s Singles. Max Mirnyi and Victoria Azarenka won the Mixed Doubles.

Brazil 2016 will be played on fast hardcourts, which could suit Roger Federer in his quest to win a an Olympic Gold Medal in the singles event. He partnered Stan Wawrinka to doubles success in Beijing 2008.

Rafael Nadal has suggested that Rio could be his last Olympic Games, whilst there are concerns that the Australian Tennis Federation would not pick Nick Kyrgios, if eligible, over his attitude.
