Novak Djokovic fails to make shortlist for the ATP Sportsmanship award

Voting is underway for the annual ATP awards but world No.1 Novak Djokovic will not be in contention for the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award.

The award is given to players who conducts a high amount of professionalism throughout their season and promotes the game through off-court activities. Candidates for the award was voted by fellow players on the ATP Tour.

Shortlisted this year is Kevin Anderson, Roger Federer, David Ferrer and Rafael Nadal. Federer has dominated the category since 2004, winning the award ten out of eleven times. The only person besides Federer to win the award within the past ten years was Rafael Nadal in 2010. After receiving his tenth sportsmanship award in 2014, Federer spoke of how much the award means to him.

“This award means a lot to me. I try to play as fairly as I can. This is a classy sport and I try to represent it as well as I can,” Federer said.

Djokovic has won eight ATP awards during his career (four-time player of the year, two-time most improved player and two time humantian of the year) compared to Federer who currently has 24.
