Lleyton Hewitt has decided to put an end to his 2015 season after aggravating a thigh strain during last month’s Davis Cup semi final defeat against Great Britain.
The Aussie who will put an end to his illustrious career at next year’s Australian Open will resume training next month for his farewell which will be preceded by an appearance at the Hopman Cup. Hewitt will also make a formal application to the Australian Davis Cup captaincy which is currently held on an interim basis by Wally Masur.
Talking to Australian newspaper The Age, Hewitt’s manager, David Drysdale, explained that “he just thought it was not best to play again this year and get his body right so he can play well in January. It’s just pulled up a little bit sore, so he’s having a bit of a rest at the moment and he’ll get back into training in November. With the thigh strain he needed rest, so we’ve made sure he’s having that rest now so that he can be fit for January, for the final hurrah. He’s looking forward to it”.
