Eugenie Bouchard is set to sue the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and the Billie Jean King national tennis centre regarding an accident which she had during the US Open.

The world No.39 suffered a concussion after slipping on a wet floor in the locker room following her mixed doubles match and press conference. She landed on the floor banging the back of her head. Due to the concussion Bouchard was forced to withdraw from her fourth round match against Roberta Vinci. Since the US Open, the Canadian is still experiencing problems with the after effects of her concussion. She has played in one match on the WTA Tour since the incident which was in the first round of the China Open where she retired in the second set after her concussion symptoms, such as dizziness, returned.

The lawsuit was officially launched on Wednesday to the  United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. In the formal documentation, it is alleged that Bouchard ‘was caused to slip’.

Was caused to slip and fall on a dangerous condition created by the defendants in the physiotherapy room attendant to the women’s locker room“. The document reads.

The lawsuit will be launched by Bouchard’s lawyer Benedict Morelli, a renowned lawyer who has worked with celebrities such as Tracey Morgan. Speaking to the New York Times, Morelli said that the substance which Bouchard slipped on was intended to be left on the floor over night after all the players have finished.

“If they were going to do that, they should have closed the door and locked it off.” Morelli said. “And they didn’t do that”.

Morelli said that the amount of compensation sought could be ‘millions and millions’. It is understood that the 21-year-old is still suffering from concussion related symptoms.
