Andy Murray told to British channel Sky Sports that he is feeling physically good in Shanghai where he returned with a straight sets win over Steve Johnson in the second round of the Rolex Master in Shanghai in his first match since winning two singles against Thanasi Kokkinakis and Bernard Tomic and the doubles with his brother Jamie for Great Britain in the Davis Cup match against Australia in Glasgow one week after the US Open where he was defeated by Kevin Anderson in the fourth round. That defeat ended Murray’s five-year run of 18 consecutive Grand Slam quarter finals since his third round loss against Stan Wawrinka in the 2010 US Open.
After a successful clay season in which he collected two back-to-back titles in Munich and Madrid Murray reached his third semifinals at the Roland Garros losing to Novak Djokovic in five sets. On grass he won his fourth title at the Queen’s before losing to Roger Federer in the semifinal in straight sets after earning only one break point in the entire match. Murray took three weeks off to rest after a very busy summer season to reach his best form ahead of a busy November in which he will play in Paris Bercy, in the ATP World Finals in London and the Davis Cup Final in Ghent between Great Britain and Belgium.
“Physically I feel good. It was important for me to get that rest. I think mentally as well I needed it. It was tough few months from after Wimbledon. I played a lot of tennis”.
