
Agnieszka Radwanska claimed her second title of 2015 as she crushed 20-year-old Montenegro player Danka Kovinić 6-1, 6-2.
During the 58-minute final, Radwanska remained firm on her serve as she was unbroken throughout the match, fending off five break points. In contrast unseeded Kovinic was broken five times and could only win 19% of her second service points. During the end of the first set and at the start of the second, the World No.6 was dominating proceedings as she won 16 consecutive points to stroll to the 16th WTA title of her career.
Despite the disappointing final, Kovinic still enjoyed a breakthrough week in China, where she became the first Montenegrin player in history to reach a WTA final. Her solid run this week will elevate the 20-year-old inside the top 60 for the first time in her career.
Radwanska’s win over Kovinic has confirmed her place in the end of year championships in Singapore, which begins on October 25th. The Polish player will play in the finals for the seventh time in her career. Her best results at the tournament was a two-time semifinalist in 2012 and 2014. Following her triumph in Tianjin, a delighted Radwanska spoke about the upcoming finals.
“I’m excited to play in Singapore this year,” she said.
“I have good memories from last year – the fans are amazing, so I can’t wait to get out there and compete against the best players in the world.”.
Radwanska is the fifth player to secure her place in the Singapore finals. Joining her at the $7,000,000 tournament will be Simona Halep, Garbine Muguruza, Maria Sharapova and Petra Kvotiva. Only the top eight players will qualify for the tournament.
