Following her recent withdrawal from the Premier 5-level tournament held in Wuhan, Flavia Pennetta took a wildcard into the 2015 Tianjin Open, which starts on the 12th of October.
The US Open winner is now sixth in the race to Singapore, but she’s still far from securing a spot into the top eight at the end of the year as Radwanska, ninth in the race, is only 79 points behind her and the 13th ranked player, Wozniacki, is 413 points away.
Therefore, any player in this ranking range who manages to make a good run in one of the few tournaments left has the concrete chance to go to Singapore. Pennetta has announced her retirement at the end of the year during the winner speech in New York.
Should she fail to qualify for the finals, Tianjin would probably end up being her last tournament ever. Should she qualify, instead, she would become the third Italian player to do so, after Francesca Schiavone in 2010 and Sara Errani in 2012 and in 2013.
