TENNIS – Kei Nishikori beat Dustin Brown in two sets with 7-5 6-1 in a highly entertaining match after Jerzy Janowicz and Alejandro Falla. The Pole won 6-2 5-7 6-2 as Andreas Seppi battled past Tommy Robredo with 6-2 6-7 (8) 6-3 to qualify for the quarterfinals where he will play Gael Monfils who beat Mikhail Kukushkin. Diego Sampaolo
World No. 5 Nishikori beat Brown ranked 114, 7-5 6-1 after a highly-entertaining match thanks to Dustin Brown, a German player of Jamaican origin who entertained the home crowd with some spectacular forehand drop shots. The 1st set was decided in the 11th game at 5-5 when Nishikori got two break points after Brown double faulted. Brown was broken when he hit a volley into the net. Nishikori wasted two set points before clinching it on the 3rd with a service winner. He cruised to 6-1 in the 2nd set only facing 1 break point in the set. He saved the only break point he faced. Nishikori will meet Janowicz in the quarterfinals.
“These two matches I have already played will help me get more confidence,” said Nishikori.
Andreas Seppi finally beat Tommy Robredo after losing their four previous matches. Robredo led 7-3 in their previous head-to-head matches though they have never met on grass. Seppi needed 7 match points in order to get this win in two hours and seven minutes.
Seppi got an early break in the first set and cruised to 5-1 en route to winning it 6-2. Robredo bounced back taking a 2-0 lead in the 2nd set. Both players traded breaks en route to a tie-break. Robredo took a 3-1 lead but Seppi recovered and got a match point. Robredo saved it before forcing the match to the decider with 8-6 points.
Seppi broke serve and opened up a 4-2 lead. He held his next service games and clinched the 3rd set with 6-3. Seppi will take on Gael Monfils who beat Mikhail Kukushkin with 7-6(1) 6-4.
