Kei Nishikori overcame Kevin Anderson 6-2 3-6 6-3 to book his spot in the final of the Abierto Mexicano ATP 500 where he will face David Ferrer, who rallied from a set down to defeat Ryan Harrison 4-6 6-0 6-0.
With the final reached in Acapulco Nishikori will move up to World Number 4 in the ATP Ranking. He would have the chance to improve to World Number 3 if he wins in Acapulco and Nadal loses in Buenos Aires.
Nishikori and Ferrer will meet for the 10th time in their careers. The Japanese star leads 7-3 in their previous head-to-head matches. Nishikori won their last match in the fourth-round at the Australian Open last January. Ferrer started his 2015 well winning in Doha and Rio de Janeiro and lost only once against Nishikori in Melbourne and will be bidding to win the Acapulco title for the fourth time after clinching three titles for three consecutive years between 2010 and 2012 when the Mexican tournament was play on clay.
“The last matches against Nishikori have not been very good. I hope to turn the situation around. He is playing very well. I need to be very strong physically and mentally”, said Ferrer.
