TENNIS – Andrada Ioana Surdeanu, 16 years of age, was hit by her father after losing a match. It was not the first time she suffered such violence. He was arrested.
Andrada Ioana Surdeanu, 16 years old, is the protagonist of a sad chapter of the tennis history of oppressing parents, as she was hit by her father after suffering a loss at the Marshall Open in Kiryat Shamona, Israel, last week.
At the junior event, the number 256 of the under 18 rankings fell on the ground bleeding from the nose, but the father simply walked back to the hotel. The girl was helped by her astonished coach and later taken to hospital, where nothing too serious was found.
Daria Kruzhkova, the girl who defeated the Romanian in her single’s match prior to the incident, said that she knew it was not the first time Surdeanu was beaten by her father.
“Police came and took a couple of witnesses, including Andrada, to the police station, while they arrested her dad.” She said.
Romanian sources report that CCTV have recorded the incident that happened on the courts of the Marshall Open and, according to them, police is analysing them with the intention to keep the men under custody for longer.
