On the 17th of October they will face each other in Genova for an exhibition called “La Grande Sfida” (the great challenge).
Since Kei Nishikori reached the semifinal that he will play today against world number one Novak Djokovic, both the Japanese player and his coach Michael Chang have been sought by the media that want to talk to them, Ubaldo managed to spend a few minutes with Chang.
In the interview they spoke about the famous match with Lendl and about his relationship with the former world number 1, “In Germany we have gone out to eat. Ivan is a very different person off the court”.
Ubaldo also asked him about coaching Nishikori, “for me it’s probably a little bit easier to coach a player like Kei, because we have similarities in certain aspects of culture and certain aspects of style.”
A journalist from Japan was also present when Ubaldo was interviewing Chang and he asked the question, can Nishikori win the US Open? Chang replied, “Kei has never played better and if you beat in five sets both Raonic and Wawrinka, the Australian Open champion, it means he has the belief and confidence to beat anyone. Djokovic is the favourite for the tournament and it will be very tough, but if he wins this match he can win the tournament”
