TENNIS WTA MONTREAL – 6th of August 2014. S. Williams d. S. Stosur 6-0, 6-2. An interview with Serena Williams
Q. You won a tournament on Sunday. You’re coming here as defending champion. To win that decisively in your first match, is that a sign of just how well you’re playing now?
SERENA WILLIAMS: It’s definitely a sign of me — I’ve just been working on some things, working hard. Hopefully they’ll come together. I’ve just been waiting.
Q. You seem to be very happy with the reaction of the crowd at the end of the game. Is that so?
SERENA WILLIAMS: I’ve been really happy. It’s been a really long time since I’ve been here. It’s really great to see. I’m really happy to be a part of the tournament this year. It’s just really cool.
Q. Can you tell everybody how you made your French so good. Everybody was blown away on court. The reaction was tremendous. They were surprised and impressed I think.
SERENA WILLIAMS: Yeah, no, I was really happy. I’ve actually been studying French for most of my life. So, yeah, I should be able to speak even better, to be honest. I love it in Canada because I understand everything. It’s a lot easier for me to speak. The accent is much easier for me to understand.
Q. You had a little bit more problems with your first serve in the second set. How do you explain it?
SERENA WILLIAMS: I don’t know. I think my toss was a little everywhere. I think I wasn’t as relaxed as I wanted to be. But there’s always room for improvement. Always keep that in mind, that I can continue to improve. So that’s one thing that I definitely want to work on.
