TENNIS Internazionali BNL d’Italia – S. Errani d. J. Jankovic 6-3, 7-5. An interview with Jelena Jankovic

Q:It was a bad day at the office, it seems you didn’t play your typical game out there.

JELENA JANKOVIC: It was quite difficult out there, Sara played a great match and credit to her. She sent a lot of balls back, she made me hit a lot of extra ball, she used the spin. I did not execute all the way through and when I did I was winning point, was 4-1 in the 2nd, then again I saw I took some bad option by my side. She read me and the momentum turn around in her favour and I wasn’t able to hold my serve and this was the key. Overall was difficult day, I gave my best but there are a lot of thing I could have done better.

Q:You are known for your return quality, why it was so difficult today to return against her?

JELENA JANKOVIC: I was trying to put pressure on her serve, I attacked her serve but there were a lot of times where I had opportunities but didn’t execute all the way through and she’s very good from the defence and somehow hit those high balls back and then I made a mistake a I go for too much or not enough. I should have served better, I served quite well all of these days. She’s not going to give you free points, keeps making you hit and hit and I needed to come more to the net and finish those point. When I was doing I was winning but when I stopped she took advantage.

Q:How’s the crowd for you?

JELENA JANKOVIC: It was all on her side but it’s normal, she’s the local player. I tried to stay focused on my game, and play my tennis but she was the better player today.

Q:Was it good this tournament for your confidence going to the French Open?

JELENA JANKOVIC: Yes, I had a good return in Rome. I wish I could to the final, that was my goal. It was a good week before the French Open, had a lot matches especially against top players. I look forward to compete in Paris and hopefully to play my best tennis over there.

Q:Which are the differences between Radwanska you play yesterday and Errani?

JELENA JANKOVIC: They both have similar game, they don’t hurt you a lot with their shot, they are very crafty, they hit a lot of balls back. Sara…her favourite surface is clay and she has that spin that push you back; Radwanska is more suitable for the hard court.
