TENNIS Internazionali BNL d’Italia – A. Murray d J. Melzer 7-6, 6-4. An interview with Andy Murray
Q: There were some anxious moment for all in the 2nd set, in the key games…
ANDY MURRAY: I remember I had been in a long game and had a couple of break behinds. I had played some good stuff in the tie-break and even in the 2nd set when I was playing some good tennis he broke and the point he broke went 5 or 6 time in the corner but actually he gave the break in the next game cause he miss 3 or 4 easy shots as well. I fell I dictate quite a lot the points and play a decent match, wasn’t windy as the previous matches…
Q: Can we say this is your best performance on clay so far?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, few bad answers to the end of the match, there was quite a lot of shape and shadows on the court that make it tricky. I played decent tennis yesterday and today against two guys very experienced and good clay court player, tricky guys to play with good shot, good touch, variety.
Q: Whether or not you play Rafa in the next round, do you think he is more vulnerable now?
ANDY MURRAY: I think if you look over the year at the consistency he had on the clay ageing you can’t do that for a whole career. There were few tournaments where you don’t play your best tennis and so the guys you play come out with great shots, I am sure over the years as well there was tournaments he has won and guys shouldn’t beat him like Madrid last year. But I am sure when the French Open comes he’ll be absolutely fine.
Q: Do you see yourself play at 36?
ANDY MURRAY: I have some physical issues the last couple of years, not like Haas who had a lot of physical problems over the years. In some way you might say he is fresher than the other 36 old players that is playing through, but he’s still a very strong guy physically win against top players regularly. I have no idea, it depends how the body holds up. Roger is 33 this year and still playing top5 tennis in the world so it’s a possibility, it depends on how you hold up physically.
Q: Do you like playing top player like Nadal?
ANDY MURRAY: To be honest it’s not a bad thing for me to play Nadal because I didn’t play him for 3 years, with the French Open and Wimbledon coming up I haven’t practice with him hard, I used to practice with him quite a lot, I would be quite interested to play against him before those events for a kind to see how’s his game changed and all the things I can do to make it difficult for him. I need to change as well, but it might be better for me to play with him now rather than at the French or Wimbledon.
