Roger Federer beat World Number 109 Diego Sebastian Schwartzman from Argentina in three sets with 6-3 6-4 6-4 on the Court Suzanne Lenglen to clinch his 60th match win at the Roland Garros. The Swiss legend becomes the first player to reach the landmark 60th win in each of the four Grand Slam Tournaments. He won 73 matches at the Australian Open, 60 at the Roland Garros, 67 at Wimbledon and 67 at the US Open.

The second round match of King Roger was not so easy as the result suggests. The 21-year-old qualifier from Argentina, who made his debut in a Grand Slam Tournament, played a very good match considering that he was playing his first Grand Slam Tournament. Before qualifying for the Roland Garros Main Draw, the 1.70m tall player, who is one of the shortest players in the ATP Circuit, had played just six tour-level matches. He won his second match on tour in the first round against Elias in the first round.

Schwartzman broke serve in the third game of the first set to take a 2-1 lead. Federer broke straight back after the Argentine made a double fault. He got another break to pull away to an easy 6-3 as Schwartzman made a backhand error.

Schwartzman managed to hold his serve until the ninth game when Federer converted his third break point chance to take the 5-4 edge before sealing the second set in the following game with 6-4.

Federer, winner at the Roland Garros in 2009, produced some spectacular shots at the start of the third set before breaking serve in the third game. He held serve until the end to close out the match in 1 hour and 43 minutes. Despite the win in three sets.

Federer hit 29 winners, won 82 percent of his first serve points and 72 percent of points at the net but it was not a completely faultless match as he committed 34 unforced errors. Schwartzman hit 20 winners and made 36 unforced errors.

Federer showed respect for Schwartzman during his post-match interview.

It was tough all the way through for me. I didn’t feel relaxed for the entire match. He put the pressure on me. He was doing a really good job being aggressive and making good plays. Because of his height, he doesn’t have the big serve and that kept me sometimes n two minds. He handled the conditions. He is probably going to move up the rankings. He is very steady, very fast.

Federer set up a third round match against Dimitry Tursunov who beat Sam Querrey 6-4 7-5 6-1. He leads 4-0 in the previous head-to-head matches against Tursunov but in their last match the Swiss had to fight hard to win with 7-6 7-6 at Indian Wells two months ago.

I don’t know I have played against him on clay in the past, so that will be a first for me. Tursunov is a different player all together versus Schwartzman today. I played against him at Indian Wells. It was 7-6 7-6. It was a tough match. But at least I didn’t know Schwartzman at all. I didn’t know if he was a good player or not really good. That’s why there was pressure on me throughout the match today probably”
