Grigor Dimitrov beat Bucharest defending champion Lukas Rosol in straight sets with 7-6(2) 6-1 in one hour and 21 minutes to clinch the third ATP title of his career. He won three titles on all surfaces after Stockholm Indoors last October and Acapulco on hard court last February.
Dimitrov crowned a perfect week in which he did not drop a set and will move up to Number 13 in the ATP Ranking.
Dimitrov built a 2-0 lead with a break in the opening game but Rosol recovered by breaking back in the third game and held serve in the following game. At 3-2 Dimitrov earned a break point chance but Rosol saved it with his serve.
The first set went on serve until 6-5 when the Czech player fended off four set points. Rosol forced the first set to the tie-break after a very long 12th game with 22 points and eight deuces. Dimitrov took control of the breaker with 7-2 in 55 minutes. The first set was spectacular with a lot of drop-shots and serve and volleys. Dimitrov won 85% of his first serve points.
Dimitrov built up a 2-0 lead in the second set with a break of serve in a very long first game with 11 games Dimitrov broke serve to love in the fifth game for 4-1. Dimitrov closed out the second set on his first match point to clinch his 20th match win of the year . Rosol lost his first match after nine consecutive wins in Bucharest.
“It feels good to have won. I lifted my game, not having been happy with my previous matches in the tournament. I knew I had to lift my level, especially after the first set. Lukas is a good player who hits some outstanding winners. It was a pleasure to win in front of Ilie Nastase and other greats”, said Dimitrov.
