Novak Djokovic beats Roberto Bautista Agut to claim his 40th win in Rome
Four-time Rome champion Novak Djokovic beat Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4 6-4 in 1 hour and 42 minutes to claim his 40th win at the Internazionali d’Italia in Rome and reach his 11th consecutive quarter final in this tournament. With this win Djokovic took a re-match against Bautista Agut, who prevailed in their previous head-to-head match in Shanghai last October.
Djokovic faced only two break points and dropped his serve only once, while he was in the lead in the second set. The Serbian star converted on three of the seven break points he created.
Djokovic claimed the only break in the seventh game of a close first set. Bautista Agut got the chance to break straight back in the next game but Djokovic fended it off. The World Number 2 got an early break in the third game of the second set to open up a 3-1 lead. Bautista broke back in the sixth game to draw level to 3-3. In the 9th game Djokovic sent the ball long but the chair umpire saw the wrong mark. Novak earned the break in the 14-point game and held serve in the 10th game to close out the match with a forehand winner.
Djokovic will play against either Kei Nishikori or Juan Martin Del Potro. The Serbian star lifted the Trophy in the Foro Italico four times in 2008, 2011, 2014 and 2015.
