VIDEO: ATP Challenger Match Halted Due To Couple Having Sex

Frances Tiafoe (zimbio.com)

It isn’t very often that a tennis match is upstaged by something that has happened nearby, but that’s exactly what occurred at the Sarasota Challenger in America.

Third seed Frances Tiafoe was playing compatriot Mitchell Krueger in the first round. The American rising star was comfortably in control of the match with a one-set lead before hearing screams. Fortunately the unidentified female wasn’t screaming in fear, in fact, it was the complete opposite. In a nearby apartment the entire crowd could hear a woman moaning during sex. The somewhat bizarre situation was laughed off by the crowd and players, with Tiafoe making his own joke.

“It can’t be that good!” He shouted after one of the screams.

Kruger’s tactic was somewhat different to that of his opponent. The 23-year-old decided to smash a tennis ball in the direction of the apartment, but it failed to interrupt the couples love-making.

What was even more comical about the situation was the match commentator, Mike Cation. Initially, he told viewers that the noise came from somebody’s mobile phone in the crowd. It wasn’t until he heard more screams that Cation realised it was actually two people getting frisky in the nearby surroundings.

“No, that’s not a phone, that’s an apartment across the lake,” said Cation. “Oh my God.”

Despite playing to the background noise of two people having sex, Tiafoe came through the match 6-3, 6-2. Bidding to win his first title of the season, the world No.87 will play Italy’s Andrea Arnaboldi in the second round.

It is safe to say that Tiafoe won’t be forgetting this match for a while!

Nadal RG 2022 by Night (foto @RolandGarros)

Earlier this year Rafael Nadal unexpectedly struck a new deal to become an ambassador for the Saudi Tennis Federation (STF).

The 22-time Grand Slam champion is set to travel to the country multiple times a year and help develop junior tennis. Furthermore, Nadal will also open up an academy in the country in a deal that is set to be worth millions. However, the financial details have not been publicly disclosed.

Nadal’s partnering with Saudi Arabia has prompted criticism from some who accuse the Middle Eastern nation of using sports to improve its image which has been tarnished by wrongdoing. Something that is better known as sportwashing. Saudi Arabia has been criticised for their human rights record, especially concerning women and LGBT+ people.

In a recent interview with Ana Pastor on Spanish television’s El Objetivo, Nadal said it was ‘logical’ for sports to be partnering up with Saudi Arabia considering the resources they have. However, he understands the backlash he has recieved from some and says if no meaningful change occur over the next decade he will admit he has ‘been completely wrong.’

But is there a way that Nadal can please both his supporters and critics? Ubitennis founder Ubaldo Scanagatta has a solution.
