Caroline Wozniacki will miss a seeding at the upcoming Wimbledon Championships after putting up a disappointing show at the ongoing Aegon Classic in Birmingham.
The former World No. 1 Dane was beaten 4-6, 7-6, 2-6 by Germany’s Yanina Wickmayer in the first round of the WTA Premier event here on Thursday.
Ranked as low as No. 35 in the world following an injury-marred season, Wozniacki was under enormous pressure to improve her ranking this week to earn a Wimbledon seed.
It, however, wasn’t to be, as she could now make further fall in the list when the Women’s Tennis Association releases the latest rankings come Monday.
This would be the first time that the 26-year-old will miss a seeding at a Grand Slam event since the Australian Open in 2008.
Earlier this year, Wozniacki was sidelined from action for about three months due to an ankle injury.
