Grigor Dimitrov beats Sam Querrey to reach the Shanghai semifinal for the first time
Grigor Dimitrov beat Sam Querrey 6-3 7-6 in 80 minutes to reach the quarter final in Shanghai for the first time in his career. Dimitrov saved two of the three break points he faced and broke twice to score his third win in as many matches against Querrey. Dimitrov hit 20 winners to 9 unforced errors, while Querrey had a +3 ratio (23 winners to 20 unforced errors).
Dimitrov saved two break points in his first service game and got the break in the fourth game when Querrey hit his backhand into the net. Querrey fended off three set points with three winners, as he was serving to stay in the set at 2-5. Dimitrov sealed the first set with an ace in the ninth game after 32 minutes.
Querrey got the break in the second game of the second set when Dimitrov sent a forehand into the net. Dimitrov broke straight back in the third game at love, when Querrey sent his volley long. Both players held their serve until the tie-break. Dimitrov fought back from 0-2 down by winning 7 of the next 8 points with three mini-breaks and closed out the tie-break by 7-3 with a service winner.
